Sneha grabs Clover Greens lead with blistering second round

Sneha Singh, who has been searching for some form, played one of the finest rounds of her professional career as she closed the Hero WPGT event’s second round with seven consecutive birdies at the Clover Greens in Hosur on Thursday.

Sneha’s 10 under par 61 in the 11^th leg of the tour gave her an 8 under 134 aggregate after an opening 2 over 73, four shots ahead of joint overnight leader Vani Kapoor, the WGAI said.

The 2023 Hero Order of Merit winner, Sneha has not won a single event this season. On Thursday, she opened with a birdie and added a second before dropping her only shot of the day. Another gain saw the Hyderabad player turn in 2 under par.

The wiry 22-year-old was on fire on the second nine. She birdied hole 10 and parred 11, but that was the last par she had for the day, picking up shots on every hole thereafter to close with a 61.

Mixed fortunes

Overnight co-leaders Vani, Ayesha Gupta and Riya Jadon had varying fortunes.

With an even par 71 that had four birdies and as many bogeys, Vani was sole second but four shots behind Sneha. 

Ayesha, who was outstanding on the first day with a 67, had two birdies against four bogeys for a 73 and the amateur dropped into a tie for third alongside Nayanika Sanga (3 under 68).

Tvesa Malik, who had a 73 on Day 1, improved by five shots to 68 and moved to 1 under and a tie for seventh with Smriti Bhargava (70-71).

Anvitha Narender (72-70), Lavanya Jadon (72-70), Shagun Narain (70-72) and Riya Jadon (67-75) shared 11th place. Riya Jadon struggled with six bogeys against two birdies for a 75.

The cut fell at 155 after two rounds with 31 players going through to the final round.
