Vani shares Clover Greens lead with young stars Ayesha, Riya

Already a winner this year at the venue, Vani Kapoor shared the lead with promising amateur Ayesha Gupta and Riya Jadon after day one of the Hero WPGT event at the Clover Greens in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday.

The experienced and much-decorated Vani returned a 4 under par 67 alongside Ayesha and Riya in the 11th leg of the domestic circuit at the course situated near Bangalore, the WGAI said.

Starting from Tee 1, Vani picked up three birdies in her first six holes before adding two more against one dropped shot for the day.

Ayesha, who was the first to tee off in the morning but from the tenth, and Riya also played superbly to lead the packed 53-strong field. 

Just 16, Ayesha, who is backed by the Roundglass Academy like DP World Tour regular Shubhankar Sharma, was bogey free with two birdies on either side of the Clover Greens layout.

Good finish

Riya, who had five birdies and two bogeys in a six-hole stretch, closed with a birdie to join Vani and Ayesha.

Heena Kang had four birdies against one bogey in her 3 under 68 for sole fourth place ahead pof a five-way tie for fifth place.

The group included the experienced Amandeep Drall, amateur Priya Kumari, Shagun Narain, Smriti Bhargav and Jasmine Shekar on 1 under 70.

Anvvi Dahhiya and Ketaki Sood shot even par rounds for tied 10^th place as 11 players carded par or better on the first day.

A multiple winner this year, Ridhima Dilawari and the promising Mannat Brar were tied for 12^th alongside Nayanika Sanga, Anvitha Narender and Lavanya Jadon on 1 over 72.
