Amandeep Drall was in the top 20 after the first day of the Ladies European Tour’s Q-School Finals at La Manga Club in Spain with a level-par round of 71.

Playing on the Real Club La Manga’s North Course, Amandeep made a late recovery with two birdies in her final three holes in a clean second nine.

It helped the Hero WPGT Order of Merit leader overcome a bogey and a double over the opening nine holes and into tied 11th place alongside 10 others.

Playing on the par-73 South Course, Gaurika Bishnoi was next best on tied 44th in the 128-strong field with a 3-over 76 with a birdie offsetting four dropped shots, two on either side of the turn.

Four-time WPGT winner this year Jahanvi Bakshi returned a 5-over 78 on the South Course to share 81st place while Vani Kapoor had dropped to T107 on 7-over 80 also on the South Course.

Competition format

According to the LET, competition is over 90 holes with the field cut to 65 and ties after the first four rounds where players alternate between the North and South courses at La Manga. The fifth and final round will be on the South Course.

On the basis of the Q-School Finals performance, the top 20 (and ties) will earn Category 11 status, the next 30 in Category 15 and the rest in Category 18 (all providing different levels of access to the main Tour).

Players failing to make the cut after 72 holes will be eligible for LET Membership in Category 18. In all categories players will be ranked in final score order, the LET’s website said.

At the top of the order, France’s Yvie Chaucheprat returned a bogey-free 67 (-4) to lead by the field by one shot. The 22-year-old came through Pre-Qualifying last week finishing in a tie for 30th after four rounds.

England’s Meghan MacLaren – a two-time LET winner – was second with a 70 (-3) on the South Course while three players shared third place on 2-under-par.
