Yadav, Chittaranjan Loco take top Railways Golf C’ship honours

Vinay Kumar Yadav of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Asansol, emerged individual champion and his team took overall honours again in the 64th All India Railways Golf Championship 2019-2020 held recently at the Diesel Locomotive Works course in Varanasi.

It was the fifth team title in a row for CLW after having retained the inter-Railways crown for the fourth time in Patna last year.

The two-day event, held between December 2 and 4, was played over the 6,200-yard, par-71 DLW course, and organized by the DLW Sports Association.

In the team championship, Chittaranjan Loco Works emerged at the top of the order with 442 points, the total of each team decided on the three best cards over the two days of competition.

CLW were followed by hosts Diesel Loco Works with 452 points while East Central Railway finished in third place with 457 points. South Central Railway (471 points) and North Eastern Railway (479 points) completed the top five.

Solid display

In the individual championship, Yadav had cards of 72 and 4-under par 67 to take the gold medal ahead of North Central Railways’ Amit Kumar who had a 142 aggregate (74 and 3-under 68). Sudipta Das of Eastern Railway took the bronze totalling 146 with rounds of 72 and 74.

Mohammad Islam of East Central Railway and team-mate Mohammad Nawab rounded off the top five with scores of 146 (71-76) and 147 (78-69) respectively.

All three sub-par rounds, by Vinay Kumar Yadav (67), Amit Kumar (68) and Nawab (69) came on the second day of competition, while four golfers were able to return level-par rounds over the two-day event.
