Four top domestic stars from the women’s pro tour will play in the inaugural edition of the $750,000 Simone Asia Pacific Cup, a team and individual event in Jakarta this August.

The Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour, WPGT, has over the years grown into a solid platform for home-grown talent, who have made good use of the opportunity.

The rewards are beginning to show in the growing number of Indian women on overseas tours, besides this most recent tournament.

Two Indian teams of two players each have been invited for the Simone Asia Pacific Cup in Indonesia to be held between August 15 and 20 under the aegis of the Asia Golf Leaders Forum (AGLF).

Rich purse

The tournament will feature a total prize purse of $750,000, out of which $500,000 is for the individual event and $250,000 for the teams.

Initially, India was allotted one team and leading stars Aditi Ashok and Tvesa Malik were invited, but as per the Women’s Golf Association of India, they conveyed their inability to participate.

They were replaced by Diksha Dagar and Gaurika Bishnoi.

The WGAI then made a strong pitch for a second team from its Hero Order of Merit. The request was accepted and Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor, the top two on the 2020-21 combined money list were chosen.

All four have conveyed their readiness to participate in Jakarta.

They have all been regulars on the Hero WPGT and also playing on the Ladies European Tour, besides making starts in South Africa and Australia.

WGAI secretary-general Champika Sayal will travel as the team principal-cum-captain.

Meanwhile, Amandeep Drall, Vani Kapoor, Neha Tripathi and Ridhima Dilawari currently are in the Czech Republic for the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, the 16th event of the Ladies European Tour season.

The 54-hole, three-day event tees off on Thursday at the Royal Beroun Golf Club with a field of 130 players from 29 countries that includes the top names on the LET’s rankings.
