Willingdon, DGC to host TGF invitational fundraisers in March

A winner at one of The Golf Foundation’s several talent-seeking initiatives.

The Golf Foundation, a charitable society that fosters young talented golfers from underprivileged backgrounds, will hold its 14th and 15th invitational fundraisers at Mumbai’s Willingdon Sports Club and the Delhi Golf Club next month.

While the Mumbai tournament will be played on Friday, March 8, the Delhi event is scheduled for March 29.

Since its inception in 2000, TGF nurtured talent from disadvantaged sections of society driven by the belief that India possesses the potential to produce golf champions from diverse backgrounds.

The events are open to golf enthusiasts and philanthropists and will include a two-player team scramble format, and offer several overall and on-course prizes.

Star power

Well-knows participants expected include actor Boman Irani, India’s first World Cup-winning cricket captain Kapil Dev, chairman of the national selection committee Ajit Agarkar, Miss Supranational India 2024 Sonal Kukreja, corporate big-wigs and others.

Talking about the event, Kapil Dev, a keen TGF supporter, said, “I would like to congratulate The Golf Foundation on the exceptional work they’re putting forward to nurture young golf players and promote the sport in the country.

“I would also like to wish all the players loads of luck for this one and I look forward to meeting them and supporting them at the event.”

“The Golf Foundation strongly believes in the transformative power of golf in the lives of young individuals,” said founder Amit Luthra, a multiple national champion, Asian Games gold medallist, and Arjuna Awardee.

“Our mission is to provide not just financial support, but also mentorship, coaching, and opportunities for these budding talents”

Over the years, TGF has supported several young golfers and has recently adopted Jindali Village in Punjab and also a 15-year-old farmer’s son. Harsh Singh, a rising hearing and speech impaired golfer in the IGU Feeder tour.

It also received the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar from the President of India in 2017 for sports promotion,

Players like Sandeep Kadiyan, Prince Bainsla and Jujhar Singh and Bhavya Mann are TGF beneficiaries, and its alumni include successful woman professional golfer Hitaashee Bakshi, Khushi Hooda, and the precocious Shubham Jaglan, amongst others.
