Women’s Golf Associational of India’s pro tour senior Vani Kapoor recorded her best finish at an international event with a tied third placing at the Big Green Egg Open in the Netherlands on Sunday.

The Gurgaon-based 28-year-old finished two shots behind winner Anna Nordqvist after having briefly held a share of the lead on the final day at the Rosendaelsche Golf Club.

Vani (69-70-71-73) was tied for second overnight a shot behind Nordqvist and an early slip saw her fall back from the top of the leaderboard but she hit back with a birdie before the turn that briefly kept her in the hunt..

A second bogey and some steady play from the leader though gave the Indian star a share of third place alongside Sophie Witt of Germany who had the day’s best card of 5-under 67, and Spain’s Nuria Itturoz.

Vani’s previous best on the LET was a shared fourth place at the 2017 Hero Women’s Indian Open.

Diksha Dagar who was tied fifth overnight had a disappointing final round to take a share of 17th place with Amandeep Drall and Ridhima Dilawari further down the order.

Nordqvist, a three-time Major champion warmed up for next week’s Amundi Evian Championship with her first individual success on the Ladies European Tour outside of the majors.

A penultimate hole birdie was good enough to give the Swede victory after two dropped shots had seen her fall into a three-way tie at the top with Vani and Sarah Schober.

Kapoor could be understood for having nerves as she stood on the first tee ahead of Sunday’s play, as she featured in the final group of an LET event for the first time, adds ladieseuropeantour.com.

And it could have been those early jitters that forced a bogey on the second, before she earned a shot back with a birdie on the eighth.

Another dropped shot on the 14th saw her fall a shot back behind the leading pair once again, with a finish of T3 the best of her career, just as it was for Sophie Witt who also finished on -5 for the week.

Women’s pro golf action now moves to the $6.5 million Amudi Evian Challenge in France where Aditi Ashiok is the only Indian in the field.
