Athletic Drive brave the rain to top group in Lloyd DGC League

Athletic Drive topped their group with a sterling show against TeeM EDC on Day six of the Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League, winning three of their seven games and drawing the rest to pick up 9.5 points.

24 Lions were in the lead having won four of their seven games for a haul of 9.5 points against The Pioneers, who have tallied five points with one round left to play.

Defending champions BMW Deutsche-Motoren, playing against Shiva Motocorp Landrover won four of their seven games and with eight points, sit atop the table in their group.

Shiva Motocorp picked up six points in the competition powered by Vredestein Tyres.

Birdie Machine managed eight points against team Robo4me who earned six, chiefly because the match could not be completed due to inclement weather.

The league, being played at the par-72 Delhi Golf Club course, will feature a total of 13 competitive days and conclude in a grand finale on October 22.

Jeev Milkha Invitational from Thursday

Meanwhile, the Rs 1.5 crore Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational 2022 presented by TAKE will tee off at the Chandugarh Golf Club from Thursday.

The prestigious event, now in its fifth edition will see a full field comprising most of the top names on the domestic circuit including in-form local star Yuvraj Singh Sandhu.

Shiv Kapur won the Jeev Invitational last year, beating Rashid Khan in a playoff, the fourth time in a row the tiebreaker was needed to decide the champion.

It was Kapur’s first PGTI victoey despite having won six times at international events and he will be back to defend his title.

Indonesian Open winner Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rashid Khan, who tied for second in Jakarta are in the field. The latter in fact had another second-place finish, at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters two weeks ago.

National Games golf gold medallist Karandeep Kochhar, a strong performer at the Jeev Milkha Invitational, will be at hand on his home course to take another crack at the top spot.

And in a race getting tighter by the event, two of the top three on the Tata Steel PGTI Rankings –Yuvraj Sandhu and Manu Gandas – will be keen to displace leader Ajeetesh Sandhu from his perch.
