European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald and Major winner Shane Lowry will have 154th Open winner Ryan Fox for company at edition two of the DP World India Championship in October.
New Zealand’s Fox, and the two Ryder Cup stalwarts are in the stellar field for the $4 million event at Delhi Golf Club from October 15 to 18, the DP World Tour has said.
Fox sank a 72nd hole birdie at Royal Birkdale on Sunday to cap a roller-coaster ride at the Open Championship and will be a major addition to a star-studded lineup that includes world number 2 Rory McIlroy and defending champion Tommy Fleetwood.
Donald captained Europe to home and away Ryder Cup victories in Rome in 2023 and New York last year, becoming only the second European captain to win home and away after Tony Jacklin in 1985 and 1987.
The genial Englishman has agreed to reprise the role as he seeks to make more history at Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027.
A former world n.. 1, Donald made his first India appearance last year and returns to the DGC in a field that also includes England’s Justin Rose and Norwegian star Viktor Hovland.
Enjoyable experience
“It’s a privilege to be able to play golf all over the world, and I really enjoyed my first experience of Delhi last year,” Donald said.
“It’s shaping up to be another incredible DP World India Championship field, and I look forward to teeing it up alongside so many European Ryder Cup players in particular.”
Lowry tied for third in the inaugural edition last year and the 2019 Open champion, who made his third consecutive Ryder Cup appearance last year, is looking forward to building on that performance at the DGC.
“I was pleased with how the week went last year, and the fans gave us a such a warm welcome. It was enjoyable to be part of the first edition of the event, and I look forward to more of the same this October.”
Co-sanctioned with the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India, the tournament will once again for part of the crucial Back 9 phase of the DPWT’s Race to Dubai rankings.
The Race to Dubai builds towards the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs and culminates with the DPW Tour Championship in November at Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates.
