The Mujib Borsho Chattogram Open from March 9 to 12 will witness the return of international professional golf to Bangladesh after a three-year gap.

The event co-sanctioned by the PGTI and Bangladesh Professional Golf Association will be played at the Bhatiary Golf & Country Club and supported by the S. Alam Group and its sister concern FSIBL.

Approximately 60 leading golfers of PGTI and top 65 local players including star golfer Siddikur Rahman, a two-time Asian Tour winner including the 2013 Indian Open, will be in the field for the 72-hole strokeplay event.

Some of the leading players from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be taking on the challenge of Bhatiary’s tough hilly layout.

The top Indians in the field are Asian Tour winner and former PGTI Order of Merit champion Chiragh Kumar and former PGTI Order of Merit champion Shankar Das.

Others include PGTI winners Kshitij Naveed Kaul, Akshay Sharma, M. Dharma as well as 2021 PGTI Emerging Player of the Year Kartik Sharma and budding talent Sunit Chowrasia.

The BGCC, standing at the mouth of the Bay of Bengal, is an outstanding venue that provides the perfect setting for the staging of the Mujib Borsho Chattogram Open

Lt Col Tawfique (Retd), BGCC chief executive, said, “We are delighted to be able to organize this prestigious international tournament after a three-year gap.

“We are grateful to club president Maj General Saiful Abedin without whose personal involvement this tournament would not be a reality”.

BPGA joint secretary and golf expert Major Mahmud (Retd) has been coordinating and finalising various aspects of the event.

“We are proud to be associated with PGTI. Our flag-bearer golfers will get exposure and will benefit by earning world ranking points from such a prestigious tournament,” he said.

“Our objective is to produce more players like Siddikur by staging more such international golf tournaments in Bangladesh.”
