Jeev Milkha Singh turned in a strong performance to take a tied seventh place at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland, on Sunday.
The 54-year-old, who won last season at the IGPL Colombo against players half his age and some even less, shot rounds of 76-71-69-70 to finish on 2 under par 286 for the week.
South Africa’s Darren Fichardt, who lost in a play-off last year, won by five shots at Trump International Golf Links, Aberdeen.
Jyoti Randhawa missed the cut with rounds of 74 and 79.
Jeev has been playing on multiple circuits, including the IGPL in India, Asian Tour, European Senior and the Japan Senior Tour.
In the final round at Aberdeen, Jeev had two bogeys in his first five holes on front nine.
The Indian golf legend recovered with birdies on holes six, 10, 13 and 15 before he dropped a shot on 16, compensated for by another gain on 17.
Making amends
A year after losing to Bo Van Pelt on the first extra hole, Fichardt returned with what he described earlier in the week as “unfinished business” and closed with a 4 under 68 to finish on 12 under 276.
“I was thinking about it last night. It just slipped out of my hands last year,” said the five-time DP World Tour winner who sealed the result with an eagle.
The victory capped a week which provided a complete test of links golf, from the wind and rain which made Saturday particularly demanding to the calmer conditions which brought significantly lower scores on Sunday.
The scoring conditions also saw Peter Baker make history on the New Course with a 7 under 65 to set the course record and climb from 3 over to 4 under, tying for fourth place with Johan Edfors.
Two-time Ryder Cup player David Howell closed with a 69 to finish sixth on 3 under 285, while 2005 US Open winner Michael Campbell matched that score to share seventh place alongside Jeev.
Next up is the Staysure English Legends at Chart Hills Golf Club from August 28 to 30.
