Jahnavi Bakshi rode her recent excellent form into the first round lead of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour event at the Rambagh Golf Club in Jaipur on Wednesday.

Making it something of a family affair, younger sister Hitaashee was in a share of second place in the sixth leg of the women’s pro tour alongside Tvesa Malik and Amandeep Drall.

Playing in a high breeze on the par 70 course, last week’s winner Jahanvi continued from where she left off returned a card of 1-under 69, the only one in red figures on the day.

Htaashee, Tvesa and Order of Merit leader Amandeep were two shots behind, on 1-over 71s.

Gauri Karhade was tied fifth with Ridhima Dilawari on 72 as the back nine bit the field hard.

Shweta Mansingh (74) was seventh, while recent winner Seher Atwal, Vani Kapoor, amateur Avani Prashanth, Ananya Datar, Neha Tripathi and amateur Nishna Patel were tied eighth.

Rough ride

Jahanvi, who broke through for her maiden win last week, started from the challenging back nine and began with five pars and a bogey to turn in one-over.

On her way back, she avoided any further errors and also had two birdies for a day’s round of 69.

Hitaashee, finishing 10 minutes before her sister, had four bogeys and one birdie on her first nine, but made up with birdies on her way back as well.

Hitaashee was joined by Tvesa who had two birdies but gave away those gains with a triple bogey on the Par-3 sixth.

Amandeep, starting from 10 around the same time, had one birdie against two dropped shots.

Vani, an early starter, had three bogeys in the first three holes and ended bogey-bogey.

In between, her two birdies were cancelled out by as many bogeys and she ended a rough day on 75.

Seher suffered a triple bogey on the par-5 eighth for her 75.

Avani Prashanth (75), already a winner this season, was the leading amateur.
