With the extended Covid-19 lockdown nearing its end, golf clubs and courses around the country are gearing up to play safe and hygienic hosts for their returning players.

The latest guidelines from the home ministry released just a while ago suggest that this will be sooner rather than later.

A growing number of clubs have begun to issue advisories for members and intending golfers advising them of the new normal that will come into effect once restrictions are lifted.

The Qutab Golf Course here in Delhi and the KGA in Bangalore are among the first to have posted guidelines for a post-corona scenario. Jaypee Greens and Jaypee Wishtown too are ready to open at a day’s notice.

However, as is the case with the other 230-odd courses around India, the final decision will be based on a nod from respective local or state authorities.

By and large, these rules follow the pattern set by the R&A in its advisory of early April, modified for local conditions. Most of them are actually restrictions that will be in place to minimise interaction for a safe reopening.

Among the key takeaways from a quick look at the new rules is the reduced number of rounds that will be on offer on a daily basis to ensure best new practices. Another is the need to pre-book tee times.

Consequently, for a significant number of establishments, there will be – at least to start with – a bar on walk-in rounds, that are for many the cash cow of the business.

Outlined are the salient points of the new QGC rules, which by and large are a reflection of what other courses around the country will adopt as and when they re-open.

Rules For Golfers

* Compulsory face mask Mask is mandatory to be worn by the golfer from entry to exit of the course. Mouth and nose is required to be covered properly.

The guidelines add:
