The 2024 LIV Golf League team finale will be played at the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas from September 20 to 22, the league has announced.

The venue in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex will see LIV Golf’s star-studded teams battle it out in both match play and stroke play formats to determine the season’s team champions.

“Our LIV Golf players are looking forward to playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with its great golf tradition,” the statement quoted LIV Golf commissioner and CEO Greg Norman as saying.

“Texas is legendary for producing and hosting great golfers who set a high bar while competing for championships. Our team championship at Maridoe Golf Club will be a great experience for our players and fans.”

“This year’s team championship holds special significance for me as we make our Dallas debut and we strive to defend our title in front of a home crowd,” said 2023 champions Crushers GC captain, Bryson DeChambeau.

Competitive spirit

“I’m excited to play this course and compete in front of Texas fans for our closing event and can’t wait to bring LIV Golf’s electrifying energy and fierce competition to Dallas.”

“Members of Maridoe Golf Club are pleased to host the LIV Golf team championship in September,” said club founder Albert Huddleston.

“Maridoe has been honoured to previously host the Southern Amateur, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, East West Cup Matches, USGA Women’s Four-Ball Championship as well as two 2020 COVID tournaments won by Scottie Scheffler and Brandon Wu.

“Maridoe is designed to be an enjoyable but demanding member’s club while always ready to provide a great test for elite golfers to entertain golf enthusiasts.”

The venue is 20 miles from downtown Dallas, was ranked by Golf Digest among the top three new private courses in 2018.

Built over the old Columbian Club and designed by Steve Smyers, the course is considered among the most difficult in the area at 7,817 yards.

For the event, teams will be seeded 1 to 13 based on the final regular season team standings following the 13th event, LIV Golf Chicago from September 13 to 15 at Bolingbrook Golf Club.

Adjustments to the format have been implemented to enhance the competition across the three days at Maridoe, the statement said.

Format tweaked

These include all 13 teams competing, with only the top three teams receiving first-round byes and automatically qualifying for Saturday’s semi-finals

The 10 teams finishing between fourth and 13th will compete in five quarter-final matches on Friday, with matchups determined at a live press conference featuring team captains during tournament week.

The five winners of the opening match play round will then advance to the semi-finals

To help strategy within the competition, team captains can participate in the singles or foursomes matchups during the first two days of match play.

Last season, the finale in Miami featured a thrilling finish won by the Crushers comprised of DeChambeau, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri.

Halfway through the 2024 season, the Crushers are in the lead again with back-to-back team wins in Jeddah and Hong Kong on 105.50 points.

Legion XIII with captain Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Kieran Vincent and Caleb Surratt, have also won twice and are second with 94 points.

The all-Australian Ripper GC of captain Cam Smith, Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones, are also coming off back-to-back team victories in Adelaide in Singapore and have jumped to third place with 90 points.

They are seven points up on Joaquin Neimann’s Torque GC who leads the individual standings. Alongside, the Chilean star has Mito Pereira, Sebastián Muñoz and Carlos Ortiz, and they are the only side to earn top-six finishes in all seven tournaments this season.

The league features 14 major champions including Brooks Koepka (Smash GC), Dustin Johnson (4Aces GC), Phil Mickelson (HyFlyers GC), Sergio Garcia (Fireballs GC), and Louis Oosthuizen (Stinger GC).

Throughout the season, LIV Golf League competition will air in India on the FanCode OTT platform.
