Delhi’s Nishtha Madan reeled in her fifth professional tour win with a 6-under par aggregate at the Cactus Tour’s Dallas Cup series event in Alta Mesa, Arizona, on Thursday.

Nishtha, who took a career fourth title in end-April, has been in steady form on the subsidiary on the Cactus Tour that runs in north-western United States.

Having racked up a maiden professional title at the Kentucky Open last July and thereafter at Sun City in September, Nishtha has hit a rich form of late.

Before Thursday, the 22-year-old who trains with California-based Noah Montgomery (also coach of European Tour regular Gaganjeet Bhullar) emerged winner at the Riverview GC Championship in Sun City, Arizona on April 24.

At Riverview, she got the better of LPGA and LET regular Cheyenne Woods by four shots winning with an 11-under 205 total against Woods’ 7-under 209.

On Thursday, Nishtha racked up a third straight 2-under 70 at the Alta Mesa Golf Club to finish six shots head of amateur Kylee Cho.

Stunning finish

As she had on Wednesday, Nishtha had a strong back nine to finish having gone level par 36 on her outbound nine.

After the turn, she picked up an eagle-3 on the par-5 16th hole by which time the title was comfortably in her bag.

It was the 14th event of the season on the Cactus Tour, which kept going through the worst of the Covid crisis of 2020 with a series of events in Arizona and California in particular.

Top Indian amateur Anika Varma too is a Cactus Tour regular and late last month entered the final 16 of the USGA’s Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in Texas.

Anika and her American partner Meghan Royal got the better of J. Fischer and C. Kovelesky 2&1 to enter the pre-quarter-finals.

The Indo-US pair got through to the Four-Ball Championship when they topped the qualifying event in Arizona with a 10-under aggregate last September.

Anika also trains with the Rosemont-based Montgomery.
