Amandeep stretches lead to five shots at Tolly leg of Hero WPGT

Amandeep Drall had a roller-coaster day but still managed the day’s best of one-over par 71 to extend her lead to five shots with one round to go at the Tollygunge Club on Wednesday.

On a difficult day for scoring at the fourth leg of the Hero WPGT in Kolkata, there were no under-par scores and after 36 holes, only Amandeep has managed a level-par total.

With cards of 69 and 71 she is now five shots ahead of Seher Atwal, who added a 73 to her first round 72, the WGAI said.

Seher was tied second with Khushi Khanijau (71-74) and Vani Kapoor (70-75).

Amandeep had a nightmarish start as she bogeyed the second and third holes and double-bogeyed the fourth to be four over after four holes.

Another bogey on six meant she was five-over and staring at a disappointing card. A birdie on nine changed the momentum though as she birdied 11, eagled the par-5 13th and birdied 15 to get to even par.

A bogey on 17 did come as a late bump, but overall Amandeep looked to have the matter in hand.

Mixed bag

Seher, winner of the season’s opening leg had five birdies and eight bogeys against five pars. She did not have a single par between nine and 17 in a streak that included six bogeys and three birdies.

Earlier she had back-to-back bogeys on three and four, and back-to-back birdies on six and seven.

Khushi had two birdies against six bogeys, while Vani Kapoor had one birdie and five bogeys.

Neha Tripathi (72-75) was sole fifth, her card disrupted by a triple bogey on the Par-5 seventh hole.

Last week’s winner and runner-up Sneha Singh (76-72) and Jasmine Shekar (72-76) were tied sixth while Saaniya Sharma, Agrima Manral and amateur Janneya Dasanniee rounded off the top 10.

The cut fell at 16 over with 19 professionals and four of the six amateurs in the field going through to the final round.
