Amandeep leads despite day two struggles at DLF event

A determined Amandeep Drall hung on to the lead despite enduring a tough day in the second round of the fifth leg of the Hero WPGT at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

Local star Jahnavi Bakshi made up ground but Amandeep was still a shot ahead on the day.

While Amandeep returned a 5-over 77 to total 2-over 146, Jahnavi brought in a 77 and is 3-over 147 after two rounds.

The day’s best came from Gaurika Bishnoi (74), who was tied third with Pranavi Urs (75) on 4-over 148.

DLF Academy trainee Hitaashee Bakshi equalled Gaurika’s score of the day and was tied fifth alongside Astha Madan (76) and Rhea Purvi Saravanan (77).

Amandeep opened with a birdie and then safely parred the next two. A bogey on four and on six saw her turn in 1-0ver 37.

On the back nine, her woes increased with bogeys on 11 and 12 and a triple on the par-4 14^th. A birdie on 15 was some consolation as she signed her card for 77.

Rough ride

Jahanvi had one birdie and one bogey on the front nine and then had

two more bogeys and a double against one birdie on the back stretch for her total of 75.

Pranavi had four bogeys but she also had two doubles and three other bogeys on a day when scoring was tough on the challenging Gary Player layout at the DLF course.

Neha Tripathi (75) was sole eighth, while Trimann Saluja (76), amateur Nishna Patel (78), Durga Nittur (79) and Seher Atwal (79) were tied for ninth.

The off-colour Ridhima Dilawari (80) was T15 and Vani Kapoor (79) 17^th.

The cut fell at 162 and 24 players, including three amateurs made the final day.
