Readying for a busy European season, Amandeep Drall played a sublime back nine with four birdies to lead the day one field in the Hero WPGT event in Gurgaon on Tuesday.
It helped her recover from two lapses on the par-5s on the front nine on the Gary Player layout at the DLF Golf and Country Club.
Amandeep, yet to win on the domestic Tour this season, was the only player to go under par on the day.
The late run gave her a three-shot lead over Jahanvi Bakshi (72), while Rhea Purvi Saravanan and Nayanika Sanga shot 2-over 74s to share third place.
Order of Merit leader Pranavi Urs, Seher Atwal, Astha Madan and Durga Nittur carded 3-over 75s and were tied for fifth.
Amateur Nishna Patel, Rhea Jha, Asmitha Sathish, Gaurika Bishnoi, Ridhima Dilawari and Saaniya Sharma were tied for ninth and Hitaashee Bakshi, already with a win this season, was 15th.
Amandeep birdied early but dropped a shot on the next hole, a par-5 that Vani Kapoor (78) and Neha Tripathi (78), however, birdied.
Strong run
Amandeep had a second bogey on the ar-5 eighth and turned in 1-over 37. On the back nine she picked up four shots.
Jahanvi had three bogeys but also a birdie in between in the first eight holes. She got one more back to turn in 1-over 37.
On the back nine she had one birdie and parred the rest for a day’s card of 72.
Rhea had three birdies against three bogeys and a double, while Nayanika had two birdies against four bogeys.
