Amandeep Drall opened the third leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour with a two-under par 70, one shot ahead of Shweta Mansingh in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The joint runner-up at the Hero Women’s Indian Open last year sank three birdies over her final six holes at the historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club to ensure she topped the day one leaderboard.
Rookie Jasmine Shekar of Bangalore turned in a steady level par 72 to hold down sole third place behind Amandeep and Shweta, the WGAI said.
Amandeep swapped a birdie for a dropped shot on her outbound nine till the three birdies on her inbound nine gave her the lead despite a bogey in between.
Shweta had a roller coaster of a round. An early double bogey-bogey sequence early meant she was three over after five holes.
Good fightback
Yet she fought back well with two birdies before dropping another shot before the turn.
On the back nine Shweta opened with back-to-birdies and added two more on holes 15 and 16 to stage a fine recovery. She did drop a shot on 12 but finished under par with a 71.
She and Amandeep were the only players in the 32-strong field to bring in under par rounds.
Jasmine, 18, had three birdies and three bogeys on her card, while Seher Atwal, who has one win this season, was even par after 13 holes, but dropped three shots thereafter to slip down the order.
Amateur Saanvi Somu (73) was fourth, while another rookie pro, Kriti Chowhan shot a 75 to sit alongside Seher and Khushi Khanijau in tied fifth place.
Amateur Janneya Dasanniee (76) was eight, while Agrima Manral, Sneha Singh and Jyotsana Singh were tied for ninth with rounds of 77 each.
