Wasim Khan leads NexGen event with 6 under 66 at Kapurthala

Delhi’s Wasim Khan fired a 6 under par 66 to lead after round one of the PGTI NexGen Kapurthala at the RCF Golf Course on Tuesday. the second event of the NexGen season.

Wasim Khan had seven birdies and a bogey during his opening round, and leads Delhi’s Ajay Baisoya who opened with a 5 under 67, the PGTI said.

Panchkula’s Brijesh Kumar was third on 68 while Kapurthala lad Ashbeer Saini recorded a hole-in-one in his 69 that gave him a share of fourth place along with Sudipta Das and Amrit Lal.

Thirty-four-year-old Khan landed his shots within five feet on three occasions for birdies. He also recovered well from the trees to pick up another stroke while his longest birdie putt of the day was a 12-footer.

“I struck the ball well, landing it close for most of the day,” Khan said later.

Clean hitting

“My tee shots and iron-play were great. I finished 11th in the season-opener last week at Golden Greens Gurgaon so that also gave me confidence coming into this week.

“The RCF Golf Course is in great condition and the approaches on the Par-5s can be tricky here as the greens are guarded by water hazards. Therefore, one has to watch out for them.”

The tournament offers a prize purse of Rs 20 lakh and marks PGTI’s debut in Kapurthala. It is being played over 54 holes with the cut being applied after 36 holes.

The top 36 players and ties from a field of 90 that includes 87 professional sand three amateurs will make the cut for the third and final round on Thursday.

Rajesh Kumar Gautam of Lucknow won the season-opener in Gurgaon and leads the Order of Merit, the season-topper earning an exemption on the PGTI for the 2026 season.
