Vidhatri extends lead to six strokes on rain-affected day at DGC

Vidhatri Urs extended her lead to six shots as rain reduced the second round to nine holes in the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour event at Delhi Golf Club on Thursday.

Vidhatri started almost two hours later than her original tee time as play was pushed back because of a forecast for heavy rain and prevailing wet conditions, the WGAI said.

The Mysore golfer opened with a bogey but birdied the second, fifth and seventh holes for a 2 under par 34 that took her 27-hole total to 7 under par 101.

Sneha Singh, who has entered stage II of the LPGA’s Qualifying School, had two birdies and no bogeys as she also shot a 34 to total 1 under 107.

The former national champion from Hyderabad was alongside Hitaashee Bakshi, who returned a 1 over 37 with one bogey and no birdies.

With birdies tough to come by, Tvesa Malik Sandhu returned a 2 over 38 with two bogeys and was fourth at 1 over 109.

Tough going

Shweta Mansingh had one birdie but also dropped three shots for her day’s card of 38 and was sole fifth at 2 over 110.

Amandeep Drall (74-37) and Anvvi Dahhiya (A) (74-37) were tied for sixth on 111, while Ridhima Dilawari (77-36) was tied eighth with Seher Atwal (73-40) on 113.

Amateurs Janneya Dasannjee, Kashika Mishra and Keya  Badugu were tied for tenth place.

The cut fell at 13-over 121 with 35 players making the final round.

Thursday’s start was delayed and with little change likely in the weather, organisers decided to cut the second round to nine holes with players having to manage the wet conditions and frequent showers.
