Vani Kapoor hit a three-under-par 69 on debut in the opening round of the Aramco Team Series Jeddah at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

The Gurgaon golfer was in a group of 10 behind a five-way tie for the lead on five-under 67 in the individual section of the competition.

Needing to improve her chances for the season-ending Tour Championship, Tvesa Malik was on one-under 71 in tied 33rd place alongside fellow Ladies European Tour regular Diksha Dagar.

Hero Women’s Indian Open runner-up Amandeep Drall had a two-over 74 on her Aramco Series debut.

Diksha was part of the winning team at the Aramco Series London in 2021 and Tvesa has played in the series regularly.

While Diksha, Amandeep and Vani are well placed on the Race to Costa Del Sol order of merit standings, Tvesa will need a good performance to make it to the Tour Championship.

Well-placed

Diksha sits 53rd in the Order of Merit, Amandeep is 61st thanks to her strong HWIO show, and Vani is 67th. Tvesa is down the order in 114th place on the back of an indifferent season.

The Jeddah field also includes breakthrough Hero Women’s Indian Open winner Olivia Cowan, who did not make a great start to be tied 64th on one-over 73.

Cowan was runner-up at the Jeddah event in 2021 where she lost out on the final hole of the event.

The Aramco Team Series – Jeddah is an individual 54-hole stroke play tournament played alongside the 36-hole team event with each tournament having a prize pool of $500,000.

There are 11 winners from the 2022 LET season in the field with seven of the top 10 in the Race to Costa del Sol also competing.

In the 36-hole competition, Team Kreuzer held a six-shot lead after their captain Helen Tamy Kreuzer of Germany received a last-minute call-up as the first reserve.

Three sides shared second place on the leaderboard with Team Ström, Team Garcia, and Team Peláez Trivino all on 16-under-par.

In the Individual competition, the five tied for the lead were Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom, South Africa’s Nicole Garcia, Italy’s Carta, Spain’s Ana Peláez Trivino, and Sweden’s Johanna Gustavsson.
