Tvesa Malik is looking to the comfort of playing on home turn to boost her season after a standout 2021 on the Ladies European Tour.

Having come within touching distance of a breakthrough win in Switzerland last year, 2022 has been a bit of a low for one of India’s regular faces on the LET.

So even as she plays in New York this week, Tvesa is looking forward to teeing it up at home in the Hero Women’s Indian Open from October 20 to 23.

Gurgaon has been home for the globe-trotting Tvesa who travels with her father Aloke and mother, Ritu and the HWIO venue is where she has some great memories.

Tvesa first played the event as a teenager in 2011 and again in 2015 but missed the cut both times.

As a professional, she missed the cut yet again but in 2018, established herself with a tied 13th-place finish.

Big jump

At the last holding of the national open in 2019 won by Austria’s Christine Wolf, Tvesa improved greatly to take a share of sixth place.

“I love the DLF Golf & Country Club and the Hero Women’s Indian Open,” says Tvesa. As for her showing at the $400,000 HWIO, backed by her sponsor, Hero MotoCorp, she added, “It is getting better.”

Last year, she opened well with a T23 finish in South Africa and T10 in Italy, where she was in contention early and even briefly shared the lead.

By the time Tvesa closed the 2021 season, she was 19th on the LET Order of Merit with five top-ten placings that included finishing runner-up at the Gant Ladies Open.

“It was a great season,” recalls Tvesa.

It has been tough going in 2022 with as many as nine missed cuts from 23 starts. “I was playing well in patches, but things did not come together for three or four rounds,” she recalled.

Now Tvesa is aiming to get a good finish in the closing events of the season, the two Aramco Series events in New York and Jeddah. And of course, the Hero Women’s Indian Open.
