Ladies European Tour rookie and Order of Merit leader Chiara Tamburlini tuned up for the Hero Women’s Indian Open with a comfortable victory at the Wistron Ladies Open – Taiwan on Sunday.
The Swiss teenager, who is scheduled to headline the national Open from October 24 to 27 at the DLF Golf and Country Club prevailed over the field by a four-stroke margin at the Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Taipei.
Tamburlini shot a closing 3 under par 69 to follow rounds of 66, 73 and 68 to aggregate 12 under 276, with Yu-Sang Hou (66-72-71-68) of Taiwan finishing on 8 under 280 with a 68 on Sunday.
Perrine Delacour of France (67) was third and Spain’s Maria Hernandez (68) and Italy’s Elena Virginia Carta (68) were tied for fourth with Nastasia Nadaud of France and South African Nicole Garcia.
India’s Diksha Dagar missed the halfway cut at the event.
Both Tamburlini and Delacour are entered for the Hero Women’s Indian Open.
Tamburlini had one birdie and one bogey on the front nine and her three birdies in a row from the 11th saw her seal the title beyond doubt.
Productive run
Tamburlini took her third win of the season and tightened her grip on the Order of Merit and rookie honours. She earlier won the Joburg Ladies Open and the Lacoste Open de France.
Third placed Delacour won the Dormy Open in Helsingborg earlier this year.
At the Aramco Team Series – Shenzhen, Tamburlini lead her team to victory and finished third in the individual event.
“It’s an incredible feeling,”the LET website quoted Tamburlini as saying.
“It’s been a long week and to see the video of them engraving my name on the trophy is an incredible feeling. I’m just so proud to be in this situation right now.
“It feels really good to have won this tournament, it’s been a long couple of weeks and to be ending this stretch with a victory like this feels incredible right now.”
“It’s a little bit of lack of luck, a lot of putts just didn’t fall for me,” added runner-up Hou. “Overall, it is a pleasure to play back in Taiwan and it’s such a great course that I grew up with.
“It was a really awesome tournament for Chiara, for her to get her third win of the season is incredible.
“It’s a little hard when you’re not holding the trophy in your home country, but overall, I want to thank everyone who supported me along the way and everyone who came out to watch us.”
