Star-studded lineup led by McIlroy set for DGC extravaganza

Come Thursday and the Delhi Golf Club will see a host of world-ranked stars and the cream of Indian talent in action at the DP World India Championship (DPWIC).

On Monday, the capital formally welcomed world number two, grand slam winner and Ryder Cup hero Rory McIlroy, who is headlining this $4 million event.

Joining the five-time major champion will be fellow-Ryder Cup winners Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland, besides their captain, Luke Donald.

After his previous foray on hone soil at the International Series DLF in February, Anirban Lahiri returns to lead a parade of Indian stars at the DGC, venue of his last international title, back in 2015.

Adding further glitter to the field are former Open champion Brian Harman and Ben Griffin, a two-time PGA Tour winner and members of the US Ryder Cup team.

Besides Lahiri, the current crop of Indian stars will include the likes of Shubhankar Sharma, Veer Ahlawat, Yuvraj Sandhu and Arjun Prasad, among others.

Gearing up

Meanwhile, the DGC was a hive of activity on Monday as the final touches were applied to preparations for the richest professional event on Indian soil.

Between the club and the DP World Tour, arrangements are being made to engage with the large number of fans expected over the four days of competition.

Besides a fan zone and food village, the venue promises plenty of of golf and entertainment that includes an interactive Spectator Village, sponsor marquees and outdoor picnic-style seating equipped with large LED screens to follow the tournament.

Golf enthusiasts can test their skills at the DP World Area with golf simulators and interactive challenges inspired by the championship.
