Sneha Singh leads Vizag Hero WPGT event after round one

Sneha Singh made a strong start with a two-shot lead in the fourth Leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at East Point Golf Club in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Sneha, winner of the second leg this season, shot a 2-under 70 riding three birdies in four holes on her second nine to record the sub-par score of the round, the WGAI said.

Closest rival Hitaashee Bakshi, who also has one win this season, was tied for second with Khushi Khanijau with level par scores of 72.

Ridhima Dilawari was sole fourth on 74 despite a disappointing run of three bogeys in a row on the front nine.

Amateur Zara Anand, making a rare appearance in a pro event, returned a 2-over 74 for tied fifth spot alongside Ananya Garg and Jasmine Shekar.

Steady start

Hyderabad’s Sneha had five birdies on her card, the most on the day. She opened with a birdie but dropped a shot on the second but birdied the ninth to turn in 1-under.

She opened the back nine with a bogey but picked three birdies quickly on holes 11, 13 and 14. A late bogey saw her finish at 70.

Order of Merit leader Hitaashee had two birdies against two bogeys, while Khushi had one birdie and no bogeys in the first 14 holes. She then dropped shots on 15 and 17 but birdied 18 to ensure a par round.

Trimann Saluja (75) was eighth while Seher Atwal, Yaalisai Verma and Rhea Jha were tied ninth on 76.
