Former national champion Sneha Singh led the way after four rounds of trials for the Queen Sirikit Cup at the Noida Golf Course on Sunday.
Hyderabad-based Sneha, winner of the 2019 nationals leads a field of seven at the trials to pick a three-member team for the Asia-Pacific region’s leading amateur team championship for women.
The 42nd edition of the prestigious regional event will be played at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club in Singapore later this year.
Defending national champion Avani Prashanth of Bangalore, a recent invitee to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, has already been named to the Indian team.’
The remaining two places for the Queen Sirikit Cup team will be filled up on the basis of the ongoing trials at the NGC.
Seven in the fray
Eight women amateurs on the Indian Golf Union merit list were invited to the trials and there has been one withdrawal after the third day, leaving seven to contest the two available slots.
Sneha so far has had rounds of 79, 69, 78 and 73 for a four-day aggregate of 11-over 299. She leads Gujarat’s Janneya A. Dasanniee (75-75-75-76, 301) by two shots.
Nishna Patel (302) and Mannat Brar (303) are currently third and fourth.
The best four cards from the five-day trial will go towards selecting the remaining two players for the Singapore event with the final round to be played on Monday.
