Shweta holds one-shot lead at Poona Club Hero WPGT event

She has been knocking on the door for some time and on Wednesday, Gurgaon’s Shweta Mansingh set herself up well yet again in the third leg of the Hero WPGT at the Poona Club Golf Course.

Shweta’s 2 under par 69 gave her a one-shot lead over Hyderabad’s Sneha Singh and Vani Kapoor of the DLF Academy, the WGAI said.

The experienced Neha Tripathi (71) of Kolkata was tied for third with 2024 merit topper Hitaashee Bakshi who was making her first start this season and opened with bogey but closed with birdie for a round of 71.

Amandeep Drall, Kriti Chowhan, Shagun Narain and Vidhatri Urs were tied for sixth on 1 over 72 while Seher Atwal (73) shared 10^th place with the day’s top amateur Saanvi Somu.

Shweta, who tied for second with Sneha in the 2023 season at Chennai and in 2021 at Kolkata, dropped an early shot but made up with three birdies by hole seven.

She turned in 2 under and picked up another stroke before a late bogey on the Par-5 18^th pulled her back to 2 under 69.

Sneha, winner of the second Leg this season, had one bogey but made up with two birdies to ensure she was under par for the day.

Vani, runner-up behind Sneha in the second leg swapped a bogey for two birdies in the front nine before knocking in pars the rest of the way.

Neha’s four birdies were undone by two bogeys and a double, while Hitaashee had two birdies and as many bogeys on the day.
