Seher Atwal stretches lead to five shots on home course

Seher Atwal shot a second straight sub-par round to stretch her lead to five shots in the second round of the 14th leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Delhi Golf Club on Thursday.

With cards of 68 and 71 she is now 5-under 139 and five shots ahead of order of merit leader Sneha Singh (71-73) who is level par 144.

Asmitha Sathish (73-72) at 1 over 145 is third, Kriti Chowhan (74-73) at 147 is fourth and Ridhima Dilawari (78-72) at 6-over 150 is fifth.

Seher, who won the opening leg of the tour in January, birdied the second hole for a bright start.

She then had back-to-back gains on seventh and eighth and another birdie on 16. The DGC golfer dropped shots on holes six, nine and 14.

Late slip

Sneha, who like Seher has been trying to find lost form again, had three birdies and two bogeys and seemed to be fine till a closing double bogey dented her numbers.

Tied for sixth place were amateurs Lavanya Gupta (78-73), Jasmine Shekar (76-75) and Agrima Manral (73-78) on 7-over 151.

Last week’s winner at DLF, Tvesa Malik had a rough day with 77 and slipped to a share of ninth place alongside amateur Smriti Bhargava (79-73).

Another recent winner, Neha Tripathi (73-81), Jyotsana Singh (77-77) and Khushi Khanijau (75-79) were tied 11th.

The cut fell at 164 and 25 players made the grade for the final round.

This is the last event before the flagship Hero Women’s Indian Open next month.
