PGTI Order of Merit champion Yuvraj Sandhu won a record seventh title with a one-stroke win at the Tata Open in Jamshedpur on Sunday.

The 28-year-old shot a closing 6 under par 65 highlighted by his match-winning birdie on the last hole to total 20-under 264 for the week at the Rs 2 crore season-ender on the PGTI schedule.

Sandhu (67-64-68-65) had to battle it out all the way with the relentless Shubham Jaglan on a tense final day at the Golmuri and Beldih golf courses.

The Chandigarh-based winner, who has earned his card for the DP World Tour in 2026 by topping the PGTI Ranking, set a new record for most wins in a single season on the PGTI.

Two weeks ago at the Delhi Golf Club, Sandhu had equalled the record of six wins in a season held by Manu Gandas since 2022.

Jaglan (68-66-65-66) produced a bogey-free round on Sunday to finish on 19 under 265 for the week and score his second runner-up finish on the PGTI in only his third appearance on the tour.

Khalin Joshi (66) and Veer Ahlawat (66) shared third place on 14 under 270.

Another record

Sandhu picked up a cheque worth Rs 30 lakh to take his season’s earnings to a whopping Rs 1.91 crore to smash the record for season’s earnings of Rs 1.56 crore set by Veer Ahlawat in 2024.

The Chandigarh Golf Club-based Sandhu also had seven top-10s this season besides his seven titles including three runner-up finishes.

Sri Lanka’s N. Thangaraja, a three-time winner this year, finished a distant second in the Ranking with season’s earnings of Rs 1.18 crore. He was fifth at Jamshedpur on 13 under 271.

Sandhu was quickly off the blocks with birdies on the first two holes before collecting another two on holes six and nine.

Two bogeys on the back nine did not upset his rhythm as he also picked up three shots with immaculate ball-striking before delivering the knock-out punch with a 15-foot birdie conversion on 18.

Gurgaon-based Jaglan, who turned professional earlier this year, was neck and neck with Sandhu all the way with three birdies at Golmuri and two more at Beldih.

The 21-year-old, who had played at Golmuri as a junior but never at Beldih earlier, was edged out only on the very last hole.

Determined effort

“I was determined to end the season with a good performance and I’m glad that I managed to achieve that today,” Sandhu said later.

“Hats off to Shubham for competing hard and pushing me till the end. He played really well and is destined for bigger things.

“Standing on the birdie putt on the last hole, I just wanted to put enough pace on it as I had left some putts short earlier in the week. The line and speed of the putt turned out to be perfect.

“This has been my best season ever and winning a record seven titles has been special. It’s yet to sink in.

“Always good to have records in your name. I’ve also ticked some important boxes this year like winning at Delhi Golf Club and winning the Tata Open.

“I’ve seen all the greats win the Tata Open in the past so I always had a burning desire to win here in Jamshedpur playing across the Golmuri and Beldih courses.

“I’m now really excited to head to the DP World Tour next year. My performances are a result of the hard work put in by me and my whole team.”

Jamshedpur’s Kurush Heerjee finished tied for 51st at 13 over 297.
