Saanvi joins Vani in shared lead at BGC leg of women’s pro tour

Bangalore amateur Saanvi Somu joined overnight pace-setter Vani Kapoor in the 36-hole lead with a second straight 1-under 69 at the Bangalore Golf Club on Thursday.

Saanvi, runner-up in the opening leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour this season at Golmuri in Jamshedpur, totalled 2 under 138 alongside Vani(67-71), the WGAI said.

Gaurika Bishnoi, playing only her fourth event this season, was third with a 69 after an opening level par 70 to total 1 under 139. The DLF golfer’s last win came in the seventh leg of the 2024 season at Mysore and she was runner-up in the fifth and sixth legs.

Teenager Saanvi has been a consistent performer, finishing runner-up four times without a win. This season she has finished second once and third on another occasion.

After a bogey on hole 2, she played 10 pars in a row and then picked up shots on 13 and 14 before closing with four more pars.

Early setbacks

Merit leader Vani, who began the day on 3 under 67, dropped shots early on the first and the third holes. 

A birdie on hole seven was negated by a bogey four holes later. She picked another shot on 16 to finish on 71.

Gaurika birdied the first and the sixth but dropped a shot on the eighth to turn in 1-under. 

She swapped birdie for bogey for birdie on holes 10, 13 and 15 before closing with bogey on 18.

Amateur Zara Anand (69-72) was tied for fourth with Durga Nittur  (68-73) at 1 over 141, while Jasmine Shekar (73-69) and Seher Atwal (72-70) were tied for sixth on 142s.

Vidhatri Urs (73-70), Rhea Purvi (73-70) and Ananya Garg (70-73) shared eighth place on 3 over 143, while Neha Tripathi (76-68), Khushi Khanijau (72-72) and Anvitha Narender (70-74) were tied for 11th.

Last week’s winner Amandeep Drall (75-70) was down in 14th place alongside Agrima Manral and Disha Kavery.

The cut fell at 10-over 150 with 26 making the final round.
