Ranveer Mitroo shot a second 2 under par 69 in a row to retain his fourth place in the boys individual event at the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation Junior Championship in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

The Delhi teenager’s card and an improved display from Krish Chawla carried India into a share of second place in the team event as well, the Indian Golf Union said.

With a total of 1 under 283, the Indians were six strokes behind leaders Parin Sarasmut and Warut Boonrod of Thailand at the Hong Kong Golf Club.

In the individual event, Mitroo retained his fourth place while Chawla (72-73) rose one spot to 15th on the leaderboard. Sarasmut fired a 5 under 66 to share the lead with Tuan Anh Nguyen of Vietnam on 8 under 134.

After opening on Wednesday with five straight pars, Ranveer birdied the sixth from five feet after his approach landed 15 yards short of the flag on the right rough.

The 16-year-old dropped a bogey on the next hole but made amends with back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine. On the back nine, he birdied holes 14, 17 and 18 against a double bogey on 10 and bogey on 12.

Unfortunate errors

Mitroo said later,“Round 2 was great but I made a lot of mistakes. I made six birdies, one double bogey and two bogeys.

“Again shot 69 and am in fourth place out of 32 amateurs after two rounds. I was decent off the tee and approach – good putting and chipping. But dropped a lot of shots from close range today.”

In the individual girls event, Saanvi Somu carded a 3 under 69 to jump into a share of ninth place while Kashika Mishra had a disappointing 10 over 82 fighting a bout of viral fever.

Kashika and Saanvi were sole seventh on a combined score of 11 over 299 after Round 2. In the mixed team event, Krish and Saanvi were tied for 10th place on 5 over 289.
