Pukhraj Singh Gill of Ludhiana and Faridabad’s Abhinav Lohan led the way after the opening day of the inaugural Rs 2 crore Indorama Ventures Open at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
The duo carded scores of 6 under par 66, two shots ahead of their closest pursuers, the PGTI said.
In tied third place on 4 under 68 were Mysore’s Yashas Chandra, Delhi golfers Sachin Baisoya and Anshul Kabthiyal, Hyderabad’s Vishesh Sharma and Chandigarh’s Amrit Lal.
Among the Ahmedabad-based professionals, Varun Parikh was the best placed at tied 48th with a 2 over a 74.
Gill produced a bogey-free effort on day one, making most fairways and greens with some clean ball striking, and picked up three shots each on the front and back nine.
Gill, 28, left himself two tap-ins and also chipped in for a birdie on hole 15 besides holing a 15-footer for another gain.
“This course suits me as it rewards good ball-striking, especially off the tees,” Gill said.

Welcome start
“I played both the nines well. The wind was up early on in my round so the pars at the beginning were quite stabilising for me and gave me a decent start. A bogey-free start is always welcome.
“I’ve had a consistent run so far this season and I enjoy a good comfort level at this course and am confident of performing well this week.”
Multiple PGTI title-winner Lohan made seven birdies and a bogey in in his opening 18 holes.
Indian golf legend Jeev Milkha Singh’s 15-year-old son Harjai Milkha Singh, playing the tournament as an amateur, carded an 81 on Wednesday to be tied 110th. Fellow amateur Arav Shah was T82 on 5 over 77.
