PGTI season resumes with inaugural India Cements C’ship

The inaugural India Cements Pro Championship tees off at the Tamil Nadu Golf Federation Cosmo Golf Course in Chennai on Wednesday to signal resumption of the domestic men’s tour after its summer break.

The Rs 50 lakh event sponsored by India Cements concludes on August 19, the Professional Golf Tour of India, sanctioning body of men’s professional golf in India, said.

Speaking at the launch, India Cements vice-chairman and managing director N. Srinivasan noted, “ India Cements has significantly contributed to the development of the course in Chennai and organising golf tournaments here.

“As an avid golfer myself, I am very proud of the major role played by the TNGF in transforming the course at Nandanam to modern standards. Over the years, membership has doubled too.”

The event will have a field of 126 including three amateurs. Leading Indian professionals in the field include Order of Merit leader Om Prakash Chouhan, Aman Raj, Karan Pratap Singh, Sachin Baisoya and Gaurav Pratap Singh, among others.

Overseas challenge

The overseas pros in the field include Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain and Badal Hossain, Sri Lankans N. Thangaraja and Mithun Perera, Japan’s Makoto Iwasaki and Nepal’s Sukra Bahadur Rai, to name a few. 

The Chennai challenge will be led by professionals C. Arul, Sandeep Syal and S Prasanth.

Added leading professional Aman Raj, “I would like to thank India Cements for organising this tournament and look forward to being in contention.
