There was close competition in more than one category of the junior talent programme of the Noida Golf Course (NGC) on Friday that witnessed a large turnout despite the heat and humidity of the past week.
In the Advanced A-plus boys category, Bipin Mukhiya emerged winner by one shot over Arjun Gulati, who actually was three shots better than Bipin over the first nine holes. On the back nine, however, Arjun’s chances were undone by two double-bogeys and as many bogeys.
Similarly, in the Advanced B boys class, Ayush Pannu got the better of Vinamra Anand 85 to 86 even though Vinamra put in a late charge over the NGC back nine that was not enough to overturn his three-shot disadvantage over the front nine.
Competition in the advanced A to D categories were played over 18 holes, while the intermediate and beginner golfers competed over nine holes.
In the Advanced D boys category, Udai Aditya Middha’s round of 74 was just about good enough to get the better of Arshvant Srivastava, who had a 75.
At the turn, Udai was one ahead of Arshvant, who opened the NGC back nine with a birdie but had a double and two bogeys, and the two finished with 1-under par 35s for Udai to maintain his one-shot advantage.
