Nidhi Gupta, Saini, Prakash are big winners at NGC’s NY Cup

Enthusiastic participation and close competitions marked the five-day New Year’s Cup sponsored by NHPC Limited at the Noida Golf Course (NGC) between December 25 and 28, 2025.

In all, the event drew 575 entries who competed in 10 categories ranging from Super Seniors (above 75 years of age) to dependant members (13 to 15 years).

Almost every category was won or lost by a single point, with count-backs needed to decide the winner in the men’s 18 to 24 handicap and the overall gross sections.

B.S. Saini won the Super Seniors section for players 75 yers and above with 22 points while Major General B.R. Jha was runner-up on 20 points.

The Seniors title was claimed by D.P. Sen (20 points) ahead of Anil Raj Kumar (19), while Nidhi Gupta claimed the Ladies (handicap 15 to 30) event, scoring 19 points to Sunita Mathur’s 20.

Tight fights

Siddharth Sharma topped the men’s 0 to 10 handicap section with 19 points ahead of Raghubir Singh (18), while Anupam Srivastava (20 points) edged past Uttiya Bhattacharya (19 points) in the 11 to 17 handicap category.

Colonel G.S. Verman needed a count-back to emerge winner of the 18 to 24 handicap event ahead of Girish Rehani after both notched up 20 points, as did Ankur Prakash 36) to decide the Overall Gross champion ahead of Raj Singh (36).

Dipankar Kaushal topped the professional members class with a round of 33 as Arjun Chaudhary took second place with his 38.

Arihaan Beri (13 to 15 years) and Vinamra Anand won the dependant members events while Ravinder Yadav topped the caddies competition with a 37 ahead of Akhilesh’s 41.

Overall winners

Vijay Sharma with 22 points was winner in the overall nett category.

At the gala prize-distribution on New Year’s Eve, dependant member Sukhman Singh was felicitated by NGC secretary Steven Menezes for his resounding victory in the 124th All-India Amateur Championship at Kolkata’s Tollygunge Club last month with a plaque and a gift voucher.

“It was a very kind gesture on part of the club,” the proud father, NGC stalwart Simarjeet Singh said.
