Two aces, four count-back wins mark NGC Captain’s Cup tournament

Even with the summer heat building and building, the Captain’s Cup competition played over three days at the Noida Golf Course drew a solid response from members with the final day’s entry list locked out well in advance.

Close competition raged up and down the categories with as many as four events out of the 10 played being decided on count-back. There also were two aces in the course of the tournament – both on the pae-3 third hole – with Major General M.S. Balhara and club professional Gaurav Pratap Singh recording the feat.

Gaurav Pratap also emerged winner of the professional members category with a level-par 72, one shot ahead of Dipankar Kaushal, while Simarjeet Singh topped the overall gross competition also with a level par card, two shots ahead of Arjun Chandanani.

As mentioned, four wins were decided on count-back over the three days of the tournament – between April 25 and 27. In the seniors event, Col. A.K. Jetly got the better of Col. D.S. Pathania with both finishing on 42 points.

The Ladies tournament saw Rashmi Bhalla win with 38 points ahead of Rana Alam. In the handicap 19-18 section, Rama Raman pipped Col M.K. Sharma, both scoring 41 points while in the dependent members 11-15 years event, Akshat Sharma and Vinamra Anand recorded cards of 76 and the former declared winner.

Chandnani had  the consolation of topping the longest drive spot competition with a healthy hit of 297 yards while Rana Alam topped the Ladies section with a 247-yard drive.

Shankar won the caddies competition with a 4-over card of 75 ahead of Pintu (82).

Handicap 0-9: 1. Annauj Mattoo 37 pts, 2. Brig. Ashish Dube 34 pts.

Handicap 10-18: 1. Rama Raman 41 pts (on count-back), 2. Col M.K. Sharma 41 pts,

Handicap 19-24: 1. Aditya Sood 41 pts, 2. S.N. Rai 40 pts.

Professional members (gross): 1. Gaurav Pratap Singh 72, 2. Dipankar Kaushal 73.

Dependent members 11-15 years (gross): 1. Akshat Sharma 76 (on count-back), 2. Vinamra Anand 76.

Dependent members 16-21 years (gross): 1. Arjun Gulati 74, 2. Arin Ahuja 80.

Caddies (gross): 1. Shankar 76, 2. Pintu 82.

Overall nett: Vice-Adm Harinder Singh 44 pts.

Overall gross: 1. Simarjeet Singh 72, 2. Arjun Chandanani 74.

Super-seniors (81 years and above): Brig. I.S. Mann 20.

Hole-in-one: Gaurav Pratap Singh and Maj. Gen. M.S. Balhara (both on 3rd hole).
