Sahil Jain (3-10 handicap) of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai’s Murad Talib (11-17) and Satish Cheeti (18-24) of Hyderabad qualified for the world finals of the MercedesTrophy in Stuttgart, Germany, this October at the national finals in Pune’s Oxford Golf Resort.
Sahil in handicap category A won with 39 points, Murad had 37 points in category B while Satish scored 36 points in category C to complete the India qualifiers.
Sahil was one of four national final qualifiers from the Noida leg of the tournament at the Jaypee Greens. Murad qualifued from the Bombay Presidency Golf Club while Satish made it from Hyderabad Golf Association. In all, 41 qualifiers and two wild cards from across 11 cities participated in the national finals.
Big prize
Hemant Goenka from Kolkata won the straightest drive Grand Lucky and will travel to the British Open Championship in July. He gets a chance to play the Royal Birkdale championship course as a guest of Mercedes- Benz India.
Runners-up in each category were Shashidhar Koukutla Reddy (Cat A, 36 pts) from Hyderabad, Umesh Nv Bhat (Cat B, 32 pts) from Bangalore and Puja Batra (Cat C, 34 pts) from Delhi-NCR.
The tournament that began and concluded in Pune also covered Bangalore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Lucknow, 27 days of action in all.
This year’s global edition of the MercedesTrophy saw around 60,000 golfers from across 60 countries battling it out to enter the world finals.
