10th Sara Futura KGF tournament tees off in Bangalore

Four golfers from Bangalore and one from Hyderabad won their respective handicap categories in the 10th Sara Futura Karnataka Golf Festival (KGF) at Bangalore’s Karnataka Golf Association course on Thursday.

They included local players Chetan Yallapurkar (42 pts) in the 21-24 category, K.S. Venkat (35 pts) in the 16-20 category, Riad Ahmad Mahmood (33 pts) in the 6-10 category and David D’Souza (35 pts) in the 0-5 category and Hyderabad’s Madhav Kota (35 pts) in the 11-15 category.

All five now have a chance to be among the winners of the 10th Sara Futura KGF, which is supported by Karnataka Tourism.

Over 500 golfers are participating in the event including more than 100 entries from 16 other cities.

Former India sprint queen, Ashwini Nachappa was among those who played at the KGA on the opening day of the 10th Sara Futura KGF.

WAGC qualifier

The top score of the five handicap categories across four days of the tournament will qualify to represent India at the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC), in Johor, Malaysia, in end October.

D’Souza is in fact attempting to make it to the World Finals for a second time.

Friday will see Jakarta Asian Games team members Kshitij Naved Kaul and Harimohan Singh join the field after which they will be felicitated.
