Host club player Keya K. Badugu and Jujhar Singh of Chandigarh topped the 13th DGC Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Tournament presented by Usha on Friday.
Over the last three days, over a hundred participants aged between eight and 21 years, saw action over 54 holes on the Delhi Golf Club’s Lodhi and Peacock Courses.
Another DGC entrant, Rohan Galhotra won the combined special category event for boys and girls between 18 and 21 years of age ahead of Vikash Kumar.
Keya, 16, had scores 72-74-81 over the three days of competition while 17-year-old Jujhar Singh was most impressive in winning the overall boys’ prize with rounds of 72, 72, and 71.
Zahaan Qureshi, founder of the Little Masters Junior Golf Tour, and son of golf great Nonita Lal Qureshi and Faisal Qureshi was the chief guest.
Other tournament winners included Aaliya Bairoliya, Trish Kalkal, Anushka Gupta, Chaitanya Pandey, Bhuvi Srivastava, and Krishnav Gupta.
Rising participation
“Usha’s association with the DGC is an extension of our ethos to promote an active and healthy lifestyle and over the years, we have witnessed the participation of young golfers go up,” said Komal Mehra, head of Sports Initiatives and Associations.
“Seeing the sportsman spirit of these youngsters and knowing that among them are potential world-class players in the making who will prove their mettle at a global level someday is a great feeling,” she added.
Said Anuva Saurabh, tournament coordinator DGC, “Usha has always supported our golfing initiatives, reiterating their commitment to promoting active and healthy lifestyles with each event.
“To see the number of youngsters participating in the tournament every year is great. Being out there on the greens for six hours every day in this weather says something for their tenacity.”
