J&K Open presented by J&K Tourism returns for fourth edition

The Rs 50 lakh fourth edition of the J&K Open presented by J&K Tourism will be played at the Jammu Tawi Golf Course from October 23 to 27, the Professional Golf Tour of India said on Thursday.

The field includes Angad Cheema, Shaurya Binu, Yashas Chandra, Abhinav Lohan, Udayan Mane and Saarthak Chhibber, among others, the PGTI said.

The overseas challenge will be led by Czech Republic’s Stepan Danek and Dominic Piccirillo of the US.

The tournament is supported by presenting partner J&K Tourism and is part of its goal of promoting golf tourism in the region.

Jammu and Kashmir has its share of spectacular golf courses including the host venue, the Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar, Lidder Valley’s picturesque Pahalgam Golf Course and Gulmarg Golf Club.

Speaking at the event launch, Vivekanand Rai, Director, Tourism – Jammu said, “We have had a mutually beneficial association with the PGTI through the staging of the J&K Open golf tournament over the last three years.

“This tournament gives us a wonderful opportunity to project Jammu & Kashmir as a destination for golf tourism for business and leisure travellers from across the world.

A showcase

“It also provides us with a great platform to showcase the world-class golfing venues in J&K to a wider audience.”

Added host venue secretary Manav Gupta, “The Jammu Tawi Golf Course has consistently demonstrated its commitment to promoting golf in India and providing an exceptional experience for players and spectators alike.

“Hosting this PGTI tournament for the third year in a row is a testament to the course’s excellence and I look forward to welcoming golf enthusiasts, media representatives and sponsors to attend the event.”

“We are delighted to return to the mesmerizing surroundings of J&K for the fourth edition of the J&K Open,” PGTI president Kapil Dev said.

“We thank J&K Tourism and the Jammu Tawi Golf Course for partnering with us in staging this event which has emerged as one of the biggest attractions on the PGTI schedule. I wish the players all the best.”  

The Jammu Tawi Golf Course is an 18-hole track designed by Col. K.D. Bagga and commissioned in April 2011.

Located along National Highway 1A connecting Jammu to Srinagar in a valley along the river Tawi. the course is approximately 6600 metres in length. It has two big and three small water bodies and a water channel about 3,200 metres long.
