Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club to host inaugural Mysuru Open

The inaugural Rs 1 crore Mysuru Open, a new event on the Professional Golf Tour of India’s schedule will be played at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club in Mysore from Thursday.

The tournament marks the tour’s maiden foray into Karnataka’s second city and also the resumption of the Tata Steel PGTI’s 2024 season post the summer break.

Leading Indian professionals at the event will include 2022 Order of Merit champion Manu Gandas, local lad Yashas Chandra, and multiple international winner Rahil Gangjee.

Also in the fray are Tokyo Olympian Udayan Mane, Aman Raj, Karan Pratap Singh, Sachin Baisoya, M Dharma, Abhinav Lohan and M. Dharma, to name a few.

Overseas entries include Sri Lankans N. Thangaraja and K. Prabagaran, Jamal Hossain and Md Akbar Hossain of Bangladesh, Italy’s Michele Ortolani, Nepal’s Subash Tamang, and American Dominic Piccirillo.

Local talent

Besides Yashas Chandra, the other Mysore-based professionals in the field are Aalaap I.L., Dhruv Bopanna and Prafful Chand. The field also features leading local amateurs Veer Ganapathy, Varun Muthappa and Suraj Joshi.

JWGC president Dr. Abraham Thomas said on tournament eve, “We are excited about the upcoming tournament and the opportunity to showcase the exceptional talent and skill of our players.

“The stunning backdrop of this prestigious golf course promises an unforgettable event for both participants and spectators.”

The JWGC is known for its picturesque landscapes and challenging fairways laid out along the base of the Chamundi Hills.

The par-70 course spans over 110 acres, featuring lush greens, strategically placed bunkers and pristine water hazards that provide a test of skill for golfers of all levels.

Designed by Phil Ryan it blends the natural beauty of the surroundings with top-notch facilities, making it a favourite among golf enthusiasts.
