Jasmine Shekar led the way after round one of the fifth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon on Wednesday.

Opening leg winner Jasmine returned a 2 under par 70 despite two late bogeys for a one-shot lead over All India Ladies champion Lavanya Gupta (71), the WGAI said.

Mannat Brar, who was in good touch late last season, was sole third on level par 72, as only three players shot par or better on the challenging Gary Player layout.

A record field of 57 players with 49 professionals is vying for a Rs. 18 lakh purse.

Already the event has seen some young names hold their own despite the presence of some of the better-known names.

Behind Jasmine, Lavanya and Mannat, Vidhatri Urs, Lavanya Jadon and Jahnavi Prakhya carded 2 over 74s to share fourth place.

Jasmine opened with four pars and a birdie on Par-3 fifth and added four more pars to make a turn in a bogey-free 1 under.

Few blemishes

On the back nine, she birdied hole 11 to go 2 under and dropped a shot for the first time on 14 before getting it back on 15.

A second bogey on 16 was cancelled with birdie on 18 to ensure a 2 under card for the day.

Lavanya showed why she is so highly rated as she was 3 under after 12 holes and 3 under after 16 before closing bogey-bogey to drop to 71.

Mannat had two birdies against one bogey on the front nine and then had two bogeys and a closing birdie on the back nine.

Amandeep Drall (75) and Saanvi Somu (75) shared seventh place with Khushi Khanijau, Anvvi Dahhiya, Nayanika Sanga, Durga Nittur and Gauri Karhade.

Former Hero Order of Merit winner Sneha Singh (76) was 14th while Tvesa Malik, was T15 with a 77.

Fourth leg winner Ridhima Dilawari (78) was T19 and had no birdies as she bogeyed four times and double bogeyed once.
