Hard on the heels of the men’s domestic tour announcing its resumption, the Women’s Professional Golf Tour too has posted its schedule for August-September with the first event at the DLF Golf and Country Club at the month-end.

Three tournaments have been announced so far, the seventh leg of the 2021 season at the DLF course, the eighth at Golden Greens GC and the ninth at Noida Golf Course.

Along with the rest of the country under a Covid lockdown, the WPGT was forced to suspend events. The last one before the second Covid wave hit the country was at Rambagh Golf Club where Tvesa Malik emerged winner before embarking on her European sojourn.

Of the six events held between January and March this year, there were six different winners – Ridhima Dilawari, Pranavi Urs, Seher Atwal and maiden winner Jahnavi Bakshi.

The list also included Bangalore amateur Avani Prashanth, who became one of the youngest-ever winners on the women’s pro tour at Bombay Presidency Golf Club in early February.

Aditi back in action

Meanwhile, there was plenty of excitement surrounding Aditi Ashok’s presence at the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open in Fife following her near-miss heroics at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 23-year-old India star held her own almost till the end against world no. 1 Nelly Korda and the uber-talented Lydia Ko at the Kasumigaseki course in Saitama before losing out in the medal race at the very end.

Aditi was a major draw for fans and media on arriving at the Dumbarnie Links for the LPGA-LET co-sanctioned $ 1.5 million tournament though her first-day performance is best forgotten, T131 with a 6-over 78.

Tvesa Malik, the second Indian in the field, had made a good start on 1-under after her opening three holes.

Scotland’s Michele Thomson was the clubhouse leader on 7-under 65, with US Open winner Yuka Saso of the Philippines in shared second place with two others on 5-under 67s.
