For years now, Indian golfers have looked eastwards for change, challenge, and playing golf with a difference, preferably in one comprehensive package.
Hence Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam have long figured on the radar and with Covid-enforced travel restrictions being eased, many of these destinations are seeing a growing stream of visitors from India.
Top of the mind is a golf experience that is removed from the regular round at one’s home course.
While Thailand and Malaysia have the advantage of being single-journey destinations out of India, they also offer the widest range of golf courses when it comes to both economy and a golfer’s ability.
One of Asia’s long-established golf tour companies, Bangkok-based Golfasian has this begun a serious outreach, beginning with the appointment of an India-specific head of business development in Arif Ansari who has long and extensive experience in the line.
“Indian golfers have always been discerning customers and want value for their money which destinations in East Asia have always offered,” says Arif (arif@golfasian.com).
“With 25 years of experience, Golfasian puts together extremely attractive packages and value additions for its users.
“Of late, we have also started offering tournament-style outings that give Indian golfers a taste of both great golf courses plus the thrill of playing competitively for attractive prizes as well.”
New offering
After the Centa World Masters in Thailand, Golfasian is now promoting the Amari Hua Hin Skins Golf Week to be played in the third week of March.
“Join us for an exciting golf tournament in a fun format, the Amari Hua Hin Skins Golf Week during 19-24 March, 2023,” the company says.
“You’ve seen the world’s best golfers compete for big money at Skins tournaments. Now it’s your chance to win big!
“The twist being you will not be playing for cash but some fantastic prizes! Holidays around Asia, Golf Apparel, Food & Beverage vouchers and much more…
“This event is open to Men & Lady golfers of all handicaps.”
It is also pushing the competition line as evident from this flyer.
“No need to go to Q School to play in our tournaments
“With all the legal rows going on in court with the PGA and LIV golf, just entering tournaments these days is really tough.
“However, throughout the year, golfers from around the world can play Asia’s finest public and private golf courses in a multi-day tournament format, unlike anything else ever produced for amateur golfers.
“And the good news is they don’t need to go to Qualifying School or even Monday’s pre-qualifier to enter that week’s tournament!
“Golfasian seems to have hit on a successful format where amateurs can play in tournament-style events with competitors from around the globe.
“Not only are there great courses to conquer but even your caddie will have a bib with your name on the back just like Tiger at the Open!
