Two parallel governing councils were declared elected unopposed at the biennial elections of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) held separately in New Delhi on Sunday.
Former Allahabad High Court judge O.P. Garg validated the panel led by IGU secretary Harish Shetty at the premises of the Indian Olympic Association.
Almost simultaneously, former Punjab and Haryana High Court justice Rameshwar Singh Malik signed off on the process initiated by 2022-2024 IGU president Brijinder Singh and his group at the India Habitat Centre.
Both sides said the election process was held in compliance with the Union Sports Ministry’s National Sports Development Code guidelines.

“The election process was observed by a representative from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and conducted in strict adherence to the Model Election Guidelines and the Memorandum of Association (MOA),” a statement from the panel said.
“The process was transparent, impartial, and in full compliance with all relevant regulations,” it added.

“21 Member State Golf Associations representing the majority of the membership assembled at the Annual General Meeting of the Indian Golf Union, held at the premises of the IOA as per the schedule announced on 14th November 2024,” the Shetty group said in a statement.
“The AGM held at IOA Bhavan adopted the election results of the IGU declared by originally appointed Returning Officer, Justice ( Retd) O.P. Garg,” the statement went on to say.
What transpires hereafter remains to be seen.
