Hunar Mittal tops Faldo junior golf series India leg

Chandigarh Golf Club’s Hunar Mittal emerged overall winner of the IIFL Wealth-Faldo Series India junior Golf Invitational Championship at the Jaypee Greens here on Friday.

Overnight leader in the girls combined section, Hunar had the better final day score to edge out AEPTA, Secundrabad’s, Milind Soni. The two finished tied on 2-over 182 with Hunar declared winner on the basis of her 1-under par card on Friday. Milind was 1-over 73 for the day to top the boys Under-16 category.

The Chandigarh teenager also won the girls Under-16 title for her aggregate 2-over score.

Smriti Bhargav of AEPTA, Delhi, who also carded a 1-under 71 on Friday was declared winner of the Under-21 girls category.

Other winners were Yuvraj Singh of Railway Golf Club, Kapurthala in the boys Under-21s and All-India Amateur champion Aryan Roopa Anand (KGA) in the boys Under-18 event.

Vietnam-bound

All five winners now travel to Vietnam to play the Faldo Series Asia (FSA) finals at Laguna Lang Co between March 4 and 6, 2020.

Women’s national champion Sneha Singh of the Hyderabad Golf Club was runner-up in the girls Under-16s while Avni Ptashanth of Bengaluru was declared runner-up in the girls U-21 group.

In the three boys categories, Vedant Sirohi (IGU) finished second in the U-16 section, Chandigarh’s Bishmad Pal Singh Seerha was the U-18 runner-up and Arjun Rana of DLF the U-21 silver medallist.

The first day was reduced to nine holes due to inclement weather, with titles decided on the basis of scores over 45 holes.

Girls Under-21: 1. Smriti Bhargav 37-77-71, 185), 2. Avni Prashanth (39-77-81, 197)

Boys Under-16: 1. Milind Soni (28-71-73, 182), 2. Vedant Sirohi (40-74-75, 189)

Boys Under-18: 1. Aryan Roopa Anand (39-72-75, 186), 2. Bishmad Pal Singh Seerha (40-73-76, 187)

Boys Under-21: 1. Yuvraj Singh 36-72-75, 183), 2. Arjun Rana (39-76-75, 190)
