Jamal Hossain extended his lead to three shots with a stunning second round in the NSL Luxe presents Telangana Golconda Masters at the Hyderabad Golf Association course on Wednesday.

Hossain’s 8 under par 62 in round two was his second error-free card in as many days and took his total to an impressive 17-under 123, the PGTI said.

Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma (62-64) continued in second place and now totals 14 under 126, three shots behind Hossain.

Another Chandigarh golfer, Angad Cheema (66-62), was third on 12 under 128 after he matched the day’s best score of 62 along with Hossain.

Chandimandir-based Chandarjeet Yadav scripted a bit of history by making the first-ever hole-in-one on a par-4 in the PGTI’s record books.

Chandarjeet’s drive zeroed in on the pin on the 369-yard 14th. He went on to card a 1 over 71 and total 141 to miss the cut by a shot.

Hossain, a 10th tee starter on day two, continued from where he left in round one as he collected two birdies and an eagle on the back nine.

The eagle-two on the par-4 15th came after Hossain’s tee shot hit the flag and landed next to the hole.

Further gains

The Dhaka golfer, currently 14th on the PGTI Order of Merit then added four more birdies on the front nine thanks to some outstanding chipping and putting.

“I posted a lower score in round one but I felt I played better today,” Hossain said later.

“Soon after Chandarjeet made his hole-in-one on 14, I came very close on 15 too. My round just took off after that eagle. I left a few putts out there today, but happy with my driving and tee shots.

“Just need to keep repeating the same over the next two days so that I can finally cross the line this year after having come close to winning on multiple occasions.”

Sharma too had an error-free day, picking up two shots on either side of the turn.

Like Jamal, Akshay drove the green on 15 to set up a birdie and also displayed some terrific chipping and putting that came to his rescue when he missed the greens.

Delhi’s Arjun Prasad, second on the PGTI’s merit list, had a 65 to share eighth place on 6 under 134.

Hyderabad professionals Mohd Azhar (68) and Vishesh Sharma (70) were tied for 35th on 2 under 138s.
