Fleetwood to join lineup at DP World India Championship

By Rahul Banerji

England’s Ryder Cup star Tommy Fleetwood returns to India after nine years for the $4 million DP World India Championship this October at the Delhi Golf Club.

A seven-time DP World (European) Tour winner and Olympic silver medallist, Fleetwood will join Masters champion Rory McIlroy in the field for the October 16 to 19 event.

The DP World India Championship is the most lucrative golf tournament ever to be played in India, tickets will go on sale from Thursday (link at bottom of story).

Fleetwood was named European number one when he topped the Race to Dubai Rankings in 2017, and the following year made a memorable Ryder Cup debut in Paris, winning four points out of five in a famous European victory.

The popular Englishman has gone on to represent Europe twice more, delivering the winning moment in Rome in 2023 in his 3&1 victory over Rickie Fowler.

Fleetwood is also about giving back to the game and has set up his academy at Formby Hall in England, where he grew up playing the game, and at the DP World Golf Performance Centre at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Keen to return

I can’t wait to get back to Delhi for the DP World India Championship,” Fleetwood said in a DP World statement.

“It’s such an amazing place, I’m looking forward to soaking it all in. But mainly I’m aiming to play some good golf and entertain the Indian fans at an important point in the season.

“I’m also very much looking forward to playing at Delhi Golf Club again. I remember it as a tight, challenging, strategic golf course.

“I think it’s great leveller, where players with all styles of play can contend, so it should help to make for a very exciting week.

“DP World are such huge supporters of our sport – including the Tommy Fleetwood Academy, which I am so passionate about – and it’s fantastic to see them help to grow the game in India with this new event.”

Co-sanctioned with the Professional Golf Tour of India, the DP World India Championship underscores India’s growing influence as a destination for elite golf and as a strategic market for DP World.

Growing interest

The new event follows the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open, won by Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra, and an International Series tournament earlier in the year that had Bryson deChambeau and Anirban Lahiri amongst other stars in the field.

Noted Yuvraj Narayan, group deputy CEO and CFO,“India is a key part of our global business, and hosting a tournament of this scale reflects our long-term commitment to the country.

“With Rory McIlroy already confirmed, we’re pleased to have Tommy Fleetwood joining the field, adding to what promises to be a world-class lineup.

“The DP World India Championship will shine a global spotlight on India’s place in the world of professional golf, and we’re very proud to be bringing this international event to Delhi in October.”

The DGC event is the eighth of nine events in the ‘Back 9’ phase of the 2025 Race to Dubai, building towards the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs and the DP World Tour Championship at Dubai in November.

Tickets for the October tournament go on sale from Thursday here.
