BMW-Deutsche Motoren beat K Devils 9 points to 6.5 to win the inaugural ‘Delhi Golf Club League in the final at the DGC on Sunday.
The inaugural edition of the Vredestein Tyres-backed event saw a thrilling end with some close battles despite the eventual margin.
BMW-Deutsche Motoren opened with a bang, winning the first two matches to set the early pace.
In the first match of the day, Atul Nath and Simran Bajaj of BMW-Deutsche Motoren, beat Sandeep Khanna and talented teenager Gia Lamba on the 14th hole.
The next clash saw BMW-Deutsche Motoren take a 2-0 lead with K.K. Bajoria and Mehul Gulati go one better, beating Sam Shergill and Brig. Arun Sahgal on the 13th.
Fightback
The third match was a close encounter and saw K Devils reduce the deficit to BMW-Deutsche Motoren, with Keshav Kapoor and Ravinder Zutshi beating Anirudh Chaudhary and Jagat Bedi on the 18th.
In the fourth contest, BMW-Deutsche Motoren pulled ahead again with Puneet Kai Suri and Hiransh Singh beating Arvind Khanna and Anuj Chandra on the 16th.
It took the skill sets of the inimitable Kapil Dev and his partner Rakesh Goel to reduce BMW-Deutsche Motoren’s lead in the fifth match.
The cricket legend and Goel beat Shamsher Dhupia and Navdeep Singh Chopra on the 14th.
Jayant Kumar of BMW-Deutsche Motoren has been in the form of his life during the League.
He teamed up with Harinain Singh Malik to ensure BMW-Deutsche Motoren were all but assured of the title with a win over Prem Duggal and Upi Kashyap on the 17th hole in the penultimate clash of the day.
The final encounter between Aman Bajaj and Vikram Malhotra (BMW-Deutsche Motoren) and Ajai Sirohi and Chaman Lal Jain (K Devils) was tied, leaving BMW-Deutsche Motoren the winners.
To no avail
K Devils won three of the “byes” to gain an additional 1.5 points but their total of 6.5 points fell short of the 9 points garnered by BMW-Deutsche Motoren.
The prizes were given away by DGC president Manjit Singh; club captain Maj. Gen. Anil P Dere (Retd.); the man behind the League and chairman, tournament committee, Lt. Gen. Balbir Singh Sandhu (Retd.) besides the sponsors.
The finale to hand over the remaining individual prizes will be conducted once DDMA guidelines permitting social gatherings are received.
Promoted by the Delhi Golf Club to develop talent, the event saw some high-quality golf over the last two weeks.
COVID protocols were followed during the event, which was managed by Gran Canaria and Digraj Golf Inc..
